This is a very short tip, but one that I know I'll find useful. For those trying to select a dark model from a dark background - open your RAW as a Smart Object, then in your layers panel, right-click on the layer and choose 'New Smart Object via Copy'. Double-click the icon of this new layer, and it will launch you into Camera RAW, where you can over expose the image, creating a far better contrast between the model and the background. Open as a Smart Object, create your selection, then double-click the icon again to return to Camera RAW to reset the correct, or desired, exposure.
